The typography needs some work. I will post some options before Wednesday's class, as well as two more posters, the rest of my type book and my chocolate labels with the secondary fonts.

Candy Box Colors

Updates

Still working on my typography, but I figured I'd post something:

I changed the type on my headline and picked a secondary type that I think is easier to read.  I'm also working on a different color scheme for the box.

For the typography booklet, I am doing movie quotes.  I figured maybe I could do some sort of drawing pertaining to each movie... here's a sample of what each page would look like.  I was also thinking that I might just lay out all the type together in a poster and make it look like advertisements out of a newspaper spread.

I went back and edited my work below.  Here are the results:I definitely like this better than the illustration, but I can't create a realistic space helmet for the life of me...

Editorial Design Work 1

Unfortunately, I've been really busy this week but I wanted to post my progress on the editorial design assignment.  I'm looking to do one layout using photography, one using a collage and one that is illustrated.  Here is the illustrated one.  I know it needs work... maybe someone has suggestions? And yes, this is a real article.  You can read it here.  

Here is another layout I'm working on for an article called "When Ambassadors Had Rhythm," about how in the 1960s we used to send famous jazz players to other countries on various tours to spread goodwill.  Again, you can read the actual article here.  

Syllabus

For this week I'm going to bring in packaging design and further work on my type booklet.  Next week, I'd like to bring in the three Mamet posters and edits to the chocolate packaging.  For the week after that, I'll have a concept for corporate identity, more type booklet work and an idea of a toy or game to develop.  

Packaging

I decided to attempt candy packaging this week.  I like the design of old-school kid's candy and cereal boxes, so I tried to incorporate that feel.

House of Games

So House of Games turned out to be pretty good- I especially liked the main character's '80s style shoulder pads and mom jeans.  I picked out a few images that I thought "fit" with the movie:

My friend Neil lent me his Canon Powershot Pro since I want to take up photography.  While playing around with it, I came up with another design:

Depending on what time I have before class tomorrow, I might try to do another one... we'll see.

Shoes

My first attempt at customs.  Once I can afford it, I'm so doing Biggie on dunks.
